TIP #1: (subject to change) - The Park City Town Council sometimes approves temporary free parking at the China Bridge garage and other surface lots around town in shoulder seasons, i.e. from April 1 to June 30, and sometimes in the fall. These special promotions do not apply to special events like the Park Silly Sunday Market, etc. It's subject to change, but worth looking into if headed to Old Town with a vehicle. Town council may consider offering free parking in other areas of Old Town as opportunity allows.
TIP #2: If you visit Park City in the winter, there’s no real reason to have a car. You can get around just fine using the free buses, shuttles, and trolley. Use ride-shares for everything else. If you visit Park City in the summer, then having a car may be beneficial for exploring scenic places beyond the reach of the transit system. But even then, a car remains largely optional.
TIP #3: The city’s Summit Bike Share system offers e-bikes on demand as a great transit option to explore the city.
The bikes' electric motors make tackling Park City's hilly terrain a breeze. AND the city's extensive paved pathway network makes getting around town safe and comfortable.
There are ski mountains, and there are ski resorts. But there is only one Deer Valley Resort. And it exudes the “Deer Valley Difference.” Deer Valley is consistently rated among the top ski resorts for customer experience. And this includes their slope-side valet guest services.
Look for the "Team in Green". Deer Valley Guest Service attendants are available to assist with unloading equipment, guiding guest parking and storing your skis overnight.
All three Deer Valley day lodge locations, Snow Park, Silver Lake and Empire Canyon, are serviced by Park City’s complimentary transit system which runs frequently throughout the greater Park City area and within the Deer Valley Resort area.
For those with vehicles, Deer Valley Resort offers complimentary parking at five base area parking lots along with a complimentary Parking Lot shuttle to Snow Park Lodge. But these often fill up on weekends, holidays, and peak periods around ~9 a.m. So plan ahead to arrive early, especially for guests with ski school reservations.
During winter season, Deer Valley also offers complimentary daytime and overnight ski storage at their Snow Park Lodge and Silver Lake Lodge locations. One pair of skis per guest, per day for a maximum of seven days. This overnight storage can be a factor in planning your transportation logistics, and may allow you to avoid a personal vehicle altogether, especially in winter.
For added assurance and certainty, check out Deer Valley Resort's "Insider Hacks for Getting Around Deer Valley" which contains some bonus parking and transportation tips.
Even more great things are planned for Deer Valley guests. Learn more about the future experience plans on our Snow Park Deer Valley Expansion page.
Those of us on Rossie Hill Drive are all familiar with the reliable and time-saving Shorty’s Stairs. They're the convenient 'short cut' steps that connect Ontario down to Marsac, just across the street from the top of the China Bridge parking garage, which leads right over to Main Street (near the Banksy's street corner artwork).
Coming or going, we absolutely love Shorty's Stairs. It's one of at least 3 different pedesrtrian routes between Old Town Main Street and the Quicksilver Townhomes on Rossie Hill Drive.
Sure - they can get the heart pumping, but they're new, safe & sturdy. And they get the job done! Thank you Shorty!
Park City, The Canyons and Deer Valley Resorts run a variety of lifts throughout the summer for visitors to ride and enjoy (sometimes for free). Ride up the mountain to hike around the trails and have a mid-mountain lunch overlooking the valley, then ride down to town.
Please call the resort or check their website for operating hours, trail maps, and lift ticket prices.
Explore Park City like a local with the help of our Visitor Center located off I-80. Talk with our knowledgeable staff about the best activities and events to explore during your stay. Digital kiosks help you to look at trail information, build an itinerary, and learn about local businesses. You can grab a cup of coffee and snack at Hugo Coffee, located right inside of our Information Center.. Click here to finalize the details of your upcoming visit.
Plan a 100% car-free trip to Park City & Deer Valley by taking a ride-share from the airport and a shared ride shuttle on the way back. Especially if the weather gets nasty, the local drivers and shuttles will get you here and back as long as the roads are open. And the rest of the local transportation options (many of which are complimentary) will keep you from tangling with a steering wheel while avoiding any challenging road conditions. This car-free approach lets you enjoy the stunning scenery, avoid parking hassles, minimize your environmental impact, and stay in the moment. So, grab your skis and hop on board for your hassle-free Park City & Deer Valley adventure!
All of Deer Valley is within the Park City limits, so the Park City public bus includes Deer Valley as well. Our Rossie Hill townhome is within a short 3-minute walk to the convenient Park City bus stop located directly on Deer Valley Road. From there, you can catch a free bus to hundreds of the most popular stops around town. The bus runs every few minutes, and even more often during ski season. Then it’s just a 2-minute ride up to Deer Valley Snow Park Base. Door-to-door, you can literally be at the Deer Valley base within 5-10 minutes of walking out the door. Personal vehicle not required.
You may also hear about a free Deer Valley ski shuttle. Deer Valley Lodging operates a free ski shuttle (including a ride-share app), but the only way to use their free shuttle is if you are renting a place through Deer Valley Lodging. That means it’s not available for us or our guests. But that’s OK, as their lodging shuttle does not apply to us, and is absolutely not necessary.
Meanwhile the Deer Valley Ski Resort operates a free Parking Lot Shuttle that runs constantly all day long (accessible to everyone), so whoever drives your group there just parks, hops on the free Deer Valley Ski Resort Parking Shuttle and takes it back to the base lodge to meet everyone to ski. If you’ve got snowboarders or others who would like to be skiing over at Park City Mountain Resort, you can take them there in your vehicle, or just drop them at the bus stop and they can easily take the free bus straight there and back. The bus is simply too good to pass up.
We’ve found that having a personal vehicle (or rental car), and driving to-and-from Snow Park Lodge base remains totally optional. It’s completely up to our guests. If you do want to use a car, then consider a scenario where one member of the group acts as a designated driver and shuttles your group and gear up to the base, drops them off with the world-class and super-awesome Deer Valley ski valets (known as the Team in Green), and then parks the car in the lot at Snow Park. (Or park back in our garage at the townhome and walk or bus back up to the DV base, or leave a car at the base and walk or bus back to the townhome.) Keep these options in mind, especially if the parking is almost full. It’s much easier solo, especially when not hauling skis or poles left with the rest of the group.
Regardless of the path you choose, remember that all Deer Valley skiers may leave their skis at the complimentary DV ski check after the first day so as not to have to be carrying the ski gear back and forth each day. Check out the Deer Valley Guest Services page for complete details.
