Historic Park City is nestled in a charming Utah valley flanked by Park City Mountain Resort on one side, and Deer Valley Resort on the other. This historic mining town serves as the modern-day center of all that is fun, beautiful, traditional, and adventurous. Since silver was first discovered in these hills, there have been countless moments of booms, busts, fires, and freezes, and the town's adventurous spirit perseveres. On and among these historic hills, are droves and droves of open space, treasured sanctuaries, mining claims, and epic stories. More than 300 mines once operated in Park City, with the last silver mine closing in 1982. Twenty historic mine structures still exist today, many can been seen while skiing, hiking or mountain biking the trails.
FACT: Almost half of Park City’s water supply comes from abandoned mining tunnels. *
* As the largest capital project in Park City’s history, the new $80 million 3Kings Water Treatment Plant in Thaynes Canyon produces over 7 million gallons of drinking water per day from several underground sources dating back to the historic silver mining era, including the Judge Tunnel, the Spiro Tunnel and Thiriot Springs.
